Action
Protec Plus is a unique combination of proven antioxidants, both vitamin and natural antioxidants. These antioxidants offer synergy to each other to ensure therapeutic benefits in oxidative stress diseases.
Protec Plus has been especially formulated to combat all forms of free radicals, wherever these originate in the body. In addition, Protec Plus assists in building and maintaining the body's own antioxidant defense.
Free Radicals: Also known as reactive oxygen species (ROS), free radicals are produced in the body both purposefully for physiological processes (eg, microbial killing, vasodilation and cell signaling) and accidentally due to cell leakage, stress, smoke, pollutions and pro-oxidants eg, drugs and radiation. However, excessive production of ROS leads to free radical-induced oxidative stress, premature aging and destruction of cell membranes, damage to collagen and other connective tissues, disruption of important physiological processes and mutations in the DNA of cells.
Biomolecules (DNA, lipid and protein) show increasing oxidative damage with age; cells and organelles (mitochondria, RBCs, collagen, fibroblasts) show increasing oxidative damage with age; tissues and organs (heart, liver, skeletal muscle, brain) show increasing oxidative damage with age.
Free radicals have been implicated in >60 diseases, including heart disease, hardening of the arteries, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, cataracts and cancer.
Antioxidants: The role of antioxidants is to deactivate excessive free radical production and stop the cellular and tissue damage they cause.
Protec Plus can dramatically slow down the aging process and protect connective tissues from free radical damage. There are various kinds of antioxidants, vitamin antioxidants eg, vitamin C, β-carotene, natural vitamin E, etc, however, more powerful antioxidants are derived from plant sources eg, grape seed extract, silymarin, lycopene and lutein, etc. Some of the other well known antioxidants are α-lipoic acid, co-enzyme Q10 and selenium.
